Dr. John Awowale is an orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training in sports medicine from the University of Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse (high honors) and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Wisconsin. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
His residency focused on the reconstruction of shoulder, knee and hip ligaments and joints, as well as arthroscopic techniques.
Dr. Awowale’s hobbies include rugby, basketball, football and biking. As an athlete, he can understand the devastating impact an injury can have and the emotions involved with being away from teammates. He describes the best part of his profession as being able to see the joy patients express when they are able to return to the activities they enjoy.
In February of 2020, Dr. Awowale co-published an article for the Arthroscopy Association of America on the outside-in, percutaneous release of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) technique.
